It was Robert Mondavi who showed the world that good food and fine wine belonged together. Downtown Healdsburg has confirmed that the pairing works well, bringing an assortment of eateries into one area.
Geyserville offers tasting rooms and some good food in a few blocks radius, and Santa Rosa now has Vintner’s Square, but it is Healdsburg that can fill your day and night with a lot more than wine. Within Healdsburg you will have no shortage of places to sample wine, but you can also experience live music within the town square, quaint shops to peruse at your leisure, and every type of dining you could imagine.
Park your car for the day and get walking; after all, you need to burn some calories and make some room to enjoy. Healdsburg is a foodie’s paradise no matter what you are looking for:
Grab a latte — made from some of the best espresso beans you’ve ever had and a scone at The Flying Goat;
Stop by the Oakville Grocery to pick up some local cheese, homemade charcuterie and freshly made bread for a lunchtime picnic on the Town Square;
Take a wine break and stop in at the Spoon Bar, where famed mixologists Scott Beattie will make you something from his “Artisanal Cocktail ” book for a pre-dinner cocktail.
When it comes to dinner, it’s going to be a hard choice. If you like Mexican, give El Farolito a try for some perfect tamales and wonderful guacamole. Affronti offers local ingredients with a Mediterranean flare. Scopa packs a big punch in a small restaurant, offering Italian with a slightly unusual flare, like the Chanterelle Mushroom Risotto Balls, stuffed with fontina cheese and covered in tomato sauce.
Before you call it a night, be sure to swing by Powell’s Sweet Shoppe for some dessert. Have some of their gelato, or grab some of the old-fashioned candy to take home if you are too full to enjoy sweets.
