Trione has been known since the 1970s for their premium grapes, but they had been used only in bottles bearing labels of other wineries. The family decided a few years ago that it was time to blend and bottle their own wine.
In 2008, the Trione Vineyards & Winery opened in the heart of the Alexander Valley in Sonoma. It offers much more than a simple tasting room. The large property is filled with production and public buildings, and over 200 acres of the family’s vineyards.
The vineyards at the winery location are only a small portion of what Trione owns. There is actually a total of 8,000 acres. They have five estate vineyards in various areas within the valley – River Road Ranch, Nervo Ranch, Cloverdale Ranch, Geyserville Ranch and Flatridge Ranch – where they grow award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Trione has also begun to experiment with other varietals and production of blends, such as in their 2006 Block 21 Cabernet Sauvignon, mixed with merlot, petite verdot and malbec for a fruity, easy drinking wine. They’ve also made something not found too much in these parts: a delicious Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.
The Trione Estate Guild is a unique wine club, allowing you to decide how much you want to spend each year. All members include invitations to events held at the winery, as well as discounted tickets. You will also get complimentary tours, tastings and access to the facilities and winery library. Estate Guild members also get discounts on all wine purchases.
At Trione, you will find large banquet areas inside and out, making it a popular spot for Wine Road Northern Sonoma events, as well as weddings, parties, winemaker dinners and corporate affairs. The tasting room, which has an outdoor patio overlooking the vineyards, is only open to the public Thursday to Sunday, so plan accordingly.
