A visit to Paris often brings visions of pan au chocolat, crepes, cheese courses, foie gras and croissants soaked in imported butter. While those famous French food items can be a part of your indulgent vacation, there are new options for those looking for organic, vegetarian, sustainable and even gluten-free meals.
Zuzu’s Petals (8 rue Marie et Louise) makes soups and burgers using what they call “eco-responsible organic” ingredients. Over at Le Kloog Café (63 rue Guy Moquet), patrons get involved in making their own food while helping the environment. You make up your own salads and other food items from the local produce supplied, and then enjoy your meal in the restaurant made from recycled wood.
Non-meat eaters are flocking to Les 5 saveurs D’Anada (72 rue du Cardinal Lemoine), where the vegetarian, vegan and macrobiotic choices are made with fresh tempeh, seitan and tofu.
If you are looking to take the healthy eating one step further, try Villa Spicy (8 avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt) , where they have a Detox Organic menu created by Chef Pascal Jounault.
For a Sunday Brunch filled with fresh organic ingredients, try Des Gars dans on Rue Vieille du Temple, Hotel de Sers on Avenue Pierre 1 or Le First at the Hotel Westin Paris-Vendôme, where a bountiful buffet of fresh fruits, meats, fish and breads are available every day.
If you’d rather stay in for your brunch, check out Hédonie, located in the Saint-Sulpice district, where they can make up baskets for you with organic vegetables, fruit and freshly ground coffee. You can pick up anything else you need when you make a trip to one of the Bio c’Bon stores (there are seven in Paris, with more to come) and stock your apartment with the fresh local meats, cheeses, organic wines and biodegradable products.
